Position: Financial Accountant

Part-time daily from 10 AM to 2 PM 5 days a week

Contract period: 1 year – renewable

Main responsibilities:

  • Recording all financial transactions in an organized and accurate manner according to applicable law and standards, and what constitutes knowledge is the clear and comprehensive commitment of management.
  • Saving, reviewing, and recording bank account statements on the accounting program
  • Follow directly the event and cash movement of deposit and disbursement.
  • Preparing, preserving and reviewing all financial accounting files, both paper and digital, such as the originals of all orders, permissions for disbursement, contracts, receipts, invoices, etc., and periodically copying copies of the invoice and securities.
  • Register all devices, machines and furniture of the institutional office in the assets devices as soon as possible
  • Analyze and examine the recorded financial information, ensure its integrity and accuracy, and sources of revenues and expenses on a regular basis, and alert management in the event of deviation from estimated adjustments in the budget.
  • Preparing and issuing various budgets and periodic reports specialized in the location, accountant, partners or its component partners.
  • Do the best efforts for the entire company, including payments, invoices, wages, claims, taxes and other contracts, accurately and within the agreed upon time frame.
  • Dealing with the registered accountant, voluntarily absorbing him and adhering to him, and providing him with the files required for my period, especially if he does not accept the preparation of the tax return.

Functional requirements:

  • Proficiency in Arabic and experience working in English
  • At least two years of experience in accounting work
  • Ability to manage budgets, supervise purchases, and follow up on expenses
  • Experience in issuing financial reports for various entities
  • High ability to work under pressure and according to a tight schedule
  • It is preferable to have a high school diploma in accounting
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software is preferred

Naema’s Office is Bleeding 2 – Painting & Collage workshop  

Medrar for Contemporary Art announces a call for applications for an advanced workshop on painting and collage techniques by artist Hany Rashed from 10 February until 7 March 2016.

The workshop is intended for artists with previous experience/ background in painting and collage. It aims to introduce participants to different practices and techniques in painting and collage and to train them on different approaches to conception of artworks and projects. The training is applied on topics related to media and internet as open sources of creativity.

Workshop is moderated by artist Hany Rashed, with the participation of distinguished guest artists who will share their personal and professional experience, as well as add to the historical and artistic content of the workshop.

A group exhibition comprising the output of the workshop, curated by the workshop moderator, will be held at the end of the program from 10 to 21 March 2016.

Visual art Competition and Exhibition from Egypt

3 – 30 September 2015

Medrar for Contemporary Art invites emerging Egyptian artists under the age of 30 to participate in the fourth edition of Roznama, Contemporary Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition, which will be held in September 2015.

Roznama is an annual competition and exhibition of contemporary visual arts by young Egyptian artists, organized by Medrar for Contemporary Art. The edition is organized in cooperation with the Contemporary Image Centre, the exhibition of which will be held in September 2015 at Medrar Space in Garden City and at the Contemporary Image Collective in Downtown Cairo.

The competition aims to encourage contemporary creative experiences for youth under the age of 30 by highlighting outstanding creative works using all artistic media, traditional and experimental. 

Through the competition, Medrar hopes to monitor and follow up on outstanding artworks as well as creative emerging artists to include them in the network of beneficiaries of its services and to support them in all available ways.

  • Cash prizes: First prize (1000 USD) – Second prize (500 USD)*

 Guidelines and Conditions of Participation:

  • The applicant is allowed to apply with only one project / one application form. If the applicant sends more than one form all submitted projects will be rejected.
  • The submitted artwork projects should be produced during 2014 – 2015
  • Participants cannot be older than 35 years of age as of September 2015.
  • The participant must be an Egyptian national.
  • Roznama does not accept any artwork previously exhibited in any Egyptian competitions or contests.
  • Roznama does not accept graduation projects.   
  • The competition organizers have the right to select the artworks and projects in accordance with the exhibition space and the facilities available within the space. 
  • Artworks, regardless of their category, are given a maximum space of 2 meters.
  • Participating in Roznama does not require any presentation fees, and the competition does not offer any offer fees.
  • The competition organizers assign the jury committee. The participants’ selection and the winners’ selection processes are held by the jury only. Neither the organizers, institutions, nor partners will be involved in these processes.
  • The jury committee members will be announced after the opening of the exhibition in September.
  • Only applicants whose artworks are selected to participate in the exhibition will be notified via email, no later than July 16.
  • Medrar has the right to utilize photos/videos from the artworks that participated in the competition for publicity while keeping the copyrights.
  • The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 3 and runs until September 30, 2015. All participants must receive their work immediately after the exhibition. Please note that the organizers have the right to dispose of the artwork after this date.
  • Roznama accepts visual artworks such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installation art, video and moving images, digital art, interactive art, performance art, and sound art.

  • Video files, attached photos, and ID photos need to be uploaded via the https://www.wetransfer.com/ website. The website will send you a link to upload the file immediately after the upload process. Please copy this link within the designated space within the subscription form (we advise you to complete the upload before you start filling out the form data).
  • It is important to note that uploaded files are only available on WeTransfer for a period that is not longer than two weeks.
  • In the case of submitting video art, the attached file must be of high quality.
  • Attach 3 different HD photos of the artwork.
  • Attach a photo of your National ID (front and back) and send it with the application form.
  • Artworks sent without filling out the application form will not be considered.
  • Submission by hand or using a CD is not allowed.
  • After notifying the artists who will participate in the exhibition, the artists shall deliver the works in conformity with the works sent in the subscription form. The artist shall bear all details of the implementation of the artwork in coordination with the curator.

Call for submission for Generator workshop

Generator  workshop

A project that aims to invite participants interested in video and experimental film to engage in active learning and practice of video production and related disciplines. Encouraging artists to develop collaborative projects.

The workshop is scheduled for two weeks starting September 15th to 29th, followed by four weeks of post production.

Projects will be funded by Medrar and Pro Helvetia, and the final productions will be screened during the 6th Cairo Video Festival, November 5th 2014.

The workshop will be mentored by Christoph Oertli from Switzerland and Mohamed Abdelkarim from Egypt.

Open Call – Swarm

Medrar Workshop for Video is a project aimed at bringing participants to interact with a group of lecturers and facilitators in a workshop that relies on delving into theoretical and practical practices to explore the vocabulary and elements of film/video, aesthetically and conceptually, and how to consume the elements of cinematic composition and the emerging practices in the field of video in producing experiences with a unique language. Therefore, the workshop’s methodology works in the context of cinematic language as a medium and tools that we can exploit to produce an experimental film with a unique language.

The workshop will host lecturers to present their experiences in film/video and to understand their production methodologies. Medrar Workshop for Video aims to produce a video (experimental film) – through lecturers, presentations, theoretical readings, and practical application that takes place over three weeks, with the support of Medrar Video Library.

The workshop targets 5 to 6 participants, and selection is based on the applicants who submit projects and ideas that are aware of how to deal with the contents and elements of film/video, which we see as a starting point for producing experimental films that are rich in cinematic language, its elements, and contents.

5th Cairo Video Festival | Medrar for Contemporary Art

The Cairo Video Festival is a platform to start a conversation between video-artists, curators and the public,
and a space for artists to showcase their innovative, low budget video art productions that are selected
according to quality, authenticity and conviction in investigation of subject matter.
Through ten days of screenings, artists talks, and discussions, the Cairo Video Festival fosters this growing
interest in new media production and experimentation to expose audiences to artists and concepts from
around the world.

The festival is Medrar’s first contribution to the art scene in 2005 and is the project through which Medrar
was later established. It started as a collective of visual artists who were experimenting with a new medium
and took initiative to establish themselves the space in which their works, along with works from all over the
world, would be shown in the heart of this vigorous city.
Job Description: Handling the festival’s administrative and logistical side

Main Duties:
● Prepare the material for the jury selection
● Follow up with meetings & deadlines for the jury
● Manage the space, its maintenance and handle procurements for the jury selection process
● Maintain an accurate and updated database for the festival, filing system/archive
● Coordinate the programming process for the festival program
● Keep in email contact with the applicants, whether their films are participating or others
● Revise the screening quality of the accepted videos
● Follow up and coordinate with the editor, translator, designer, print, publication distribution
● Collect & review the festival text from the excel sheet
● Welcome and orient guests or visitors about The festival
● Provide support during project implementation, when required
