Join us on Sunday, November 17th, at 7 p.m. for an engaging art talk with artist Aïda Schweitzer at Medrar for Contemporary Art!

As the artist-in-residence at Out Of The Circle, Aïda Schweitzer will share her journey with textiles and her art research in Egypt. She delves into the rich heritage of Egyptian textile patterns and techniques, blending tradition with technology. Her project experiments with ancestral embroidery, integrating AI-generated visuals to create a new artistic language. This research opens a unique dialogue: will AI become a tool, a hybrid creative partner, or an independent entity in her process?

Since 2009, Aïda has exhibited widely across Europe, including at Nosbaum Reding Project Gallery and the Venice Biennale. Now, she brings her skills into an experimental laboratory, redefining textile art for contemporary audiences.

About the artist:

Aïda Schweitzer

Since 2009, Aïda Schweitzer has exhibited in both solo and group shows, including at the Nosbaum Reding Project Gallery in Luxembourg and Casino Luxembourg – Forum of Contemporary Art. She joined the project (in)VISIBLE – (un)SICHTBAR TOTAL THEATRE in Saarbrücken, Luxembourg, Liège, and Thionville alongside German artists Angie Hiels and Roland Kayse, choreographers, and performers. In 2017, she was invited to participate in a performance at the Venice Biennale by Nigerian artist Jelili Atiku, an experience that strengthened her connections with Africa. Aïda also participated in the group exhibition “Women Warriors, Women in Combat,” curated by Isabelle de Maison Rouge in Paris, and was selected for a focus on the Luxembourg scene by independent curator Marianne Derrien in November 2022.
“This practice of weaving, drawing inspiration from various traditions and representations, may serve as a means to reconstruct the fragmented threads of her personal history.”
