We are pleased to announce Radical Echoes: Motherhood, undergrowth, and Shelter

Exhibition by Alaa Ayman, Mariam Soliman, and Mariam Fayek

In Radical Echoes, three artists—Alaa Ayman, Mariam Soliman, and Mariam Fayek—explore creating some sort of visual narratives touching on themes of the undergrowth, motherhood, and shelter. Their aim is to chase passing moments that remain frozen in time, transcending temporal boundaries. They weave together threads of complex memories, significant events, and the profound journey of womanhood, drawing from personal experiences.

As Alaa gathers tales, random stories, and memories from her collection of photographs and videos, she finds inspiration in tracing her own thoughts, depicting and recreating them as a form of self-expression. While Mariam Soliman documents her exotic perspective on the concept of tribe or family, and the public happenings, with a sarcastic tendency. As for Mariam Fayek, she embodies her personal experience of the journey of motherhood and its altered emotions, exploring the notion of the body through various mediums.

The exhibition opens on Sunday, February 18th, 2024, from 7 – 9 PM at Medrar

and runs until Sunday, March 10th, 2024, from 4 – 9 pm except Fridays in Medrar.

The artists

Alaa Ayman

Alaa Ayman is a painter and a video artist born in 1995, based in Cairo. She graduated from Fine Arts  then pursued Visual Arts at Studio Khana for Contemporary Art and Cultural Development in Cairo .Most of Alaa’s artwork is inspired by memories or stories, even events, in order to create her individual mythology, a way to reconnect her personal story with history and collective memory.She likes to experiment with painting, erasing or adding to create new narratives and storylines .

Mariam Fayek

Mariam is an aspiring visual artist born in 1995,  living and working  in Cairo. She graduated from the American University in Cairo with a BA in Visual Arts.

Maryam Working with several mediums, her self-documenting practice is based on conceptual research alongside a personal archival process to produce intimate experiences, memories, and subconscious, especially the journey of motherhood, where she transforms them into layers of various mixed mediums, serving a conceptual yet sentimental  purpose that explores modern motifs, the man- made machines and the human body.

Fayek participated in many group exhibitions like “something else” is Citadel, and “3031 artfest in Darb 1718.

Mariam Soliman

An Egyptian artist, born in Cairo in 1998, graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts

Department of Painting. Through a sarcastic lens, Mariam documents recurring life events and reflects her personal observations and impressions about life from its various aspects. She sheds light on the idea of ​​the tribe or family, the extent of its strength, and how it was destroyed, whether because of wars and international disputes or because of human destructive nature.

Maryam participated in many group exhibitions and art competitions, including the Plage Champollion exhibition at Access Gallery and the Farouk Hosni Arts Competition 2023.
