MedRX educational program is a series of new monthly workshops that give students and artists the opportunity to explore and XR world experiences across a range of different workshops and media platforms

Augmented Reality Art is a technology enabling the connection between the real and physical
experience and digital virtual content.
During the workshop, we will look at the current applications of Augmented Reality technologies,
its potentials and ways of creating AR experiences with a variety of media—illustration,
animation and 3D models and reflect on the place of immersive technologies in the
contemporary new media art context.

What we will do:

  • The basics of Augmented Reality and how it can be used to enhance and expand artwork
    add information, create a narrative, and interact.
  • Introduction to selected AR tools to create augmented reality experiences (ARTIVIVE,
    Adobe AERO, Spark Studio).
  • Creating an augmented reality experience artwork and reflection on its context in the
    contemporary art discourse.
    This workshop is open to all types of artists and creatives interested in using augmented reality.
    In the workshop, participants will learn to understand the medium and explore how they can
    integrate it into their current work and projects. The workshop aims at creating space for
    brainstorming, discussion and exchange of ideas around the potentials of Augmented Reality
    Art.

Target Group:

  • Digital and Non-digital artists, designers, architects and visual storytellers

Prerequisites:

  • a smart phone, a laptop, and/or tablet
  • graphic software (Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe After Effects and or Blender, for
    laptop) (Procreate and/or Nomad Sculpt for tablet) or alternatives
  • ability to work with graphic programs
  • language: English

To apply, submit : CV (1 page), Motivation to participate (half page), images
for work (max. 5 projects or images)
Program:
Day1: 2h
Introduction to AR, the tools, and their uses. Participants introduce themselves and their work.
brainstorming ideas on how they can use AR in their work.
Homework: develop one idea based on personal work to implement on day 2.
Day 2: 3h
Work on small exercises in AERO and Spark. Work on the implementation of participants
individual projects, laying out the programs, and gathering group and individual feedback.
Homework: preparing assets for a new personal AR project.
Day 3: 3h
Presentations of ideas and theoretical background of personal project and collected assets
work on the project.

Dates: 12, 13, 14 June ( Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) | From 6:9 PM

Fees: 1500 EGP

Introduction for creative coding and its implementation in graphic design and the interactivity that can be included, The workshop will be directed towards beginners, and the participants will be introduced to this process of creation that will enable them to translate their ideas using a new type of media 

Content:

  • Introduction to the history of creative coding and how machines have played a role in the creation of art throughout the years  
  • Introduction to making visual art and/or graphics with code
  • Sessions will be split into theory plus examples, followed by an exercise and time for the participants to experiment.

Requirements:

  •  background and interests in digital design
  • Every participant must have their own laptop 
  • General knowledge of coding concepts (No prior coding experience is required)
  • language: English

Dates:  18, 20, 25, 27 June (Sundays & Tuesdays) From 6 – 9

This workshop will focus on creating real-time interactive media suitable for performances and installations. We will work with Hydra, P5js, and other Javascript libraries as well.

We will focus on using found footage, written text excerpts, and screen captures to create a collage-based performance and manipulate it using OSC input, embracing the occasional chaos and randomness that come with algorithmic performance.

Workshop Requirements:

  • Bring your own laptop
