Let The People Know – Cairo Edition 

Mohamed Abdelkarim (1983) lives and works between Cairo and Rotterdam. Abdelkarim is an artist and performer. After completing his M.A. at ECAV/Edhea, Switzerland, he turned towards producing text-based performances and became committed to performative practices based on multidisciplinary research, employing and reflecting on narrating, singing, detecting, doing, fictioning, and speculating. In Abdelkarim’s performative works, the script bears witness to the research experience. The emphasis is on the process, as a reflection on production and cultural genealogy. This process is open-ended and non-linear. His current umbrella project focuses on the agency of the dramaturgy of defeat and its intersection with landscape as a witness to “a history we missed and a future we have not yet attended”. As part of his performative practice, he established “Live Praxes”, a performance encounter that includes workshops, seminars, and performance nights.

Gilles Furtwängler (1982) lives and works in Lausanne (CH) and Johannesburg (ZA). After graduating from the Art School of Lausanne in Switzerland (ECAL) in 2006, Gilles Furtwängler has since been developing his artwork based on text, using spoken words as the trigger of his written and visual production. Through writing and collecting found texts, Furtwängler works on retelling and rewriting what he hears and reads, using contexts, colors and substances to sculpt words, mental images and meanings. Member of the contemporary art center Circuit in Lausanne and artists group Makrout Unité in Switzerland, he is also the founder of the spoken words show Revenir et Dire Ça on the internet radio DUUU* based in Paris.

Tshepang Ramoba is a drummer, vocalist, producer and film music supervisor from Johannesburg South Africa. He is a member of the alternative band BLK JKS. RMBO began his music career at a high school detention session. One day the detention teacher was absent and the detainees were sent to the contemporary music after school class. Ever the showman, Ramoba went over to the drum-kit and started banging away in an effort to rile the temper of his detainers only to have his remaining detention sessions turned into contemporary music lessons by the school principal. He later studied toward a diploma in African Music and Jazz at FUBA and also completed a diploma in sound engineering from the same institution. Ramoba abandoned his post graduate music studies at TUT when his band BLK JKS embarked on their first world tour. His career highlights include being voted Best Musician by Billboard at the SXSW festival in Texas, winning the SAMA for Best Alternative album as a part of BLK JKS and doing a collaborative performance with Alicia Keys for the world cup opening concert. He has also played alongside The Roots.
